Frank Palmer’s recollections of living and working in the Blackmore Vale village of Stourton Caundle from 920-1945
Pages: 154 Illustrations 28 b&w photos
This is a nostalgic look at what it was like to live and work in the Blackmore Vale village of Stourton Caundle between 1920 and 1945 as seen through the eyes of Frank Palmer who, at the age of 10, was milking the cows on Manor Farm before school each day. On leaving school at 14 he worked on the farm, 7 days a week, and in his spare time taught himself to play the saxophone and clarinet. He became a very proficient musician and made many guest appearances with dance bands made up of American troops stationed near Stalbridge during the Second World War.
