This book provides personal memorials for the 48 local men from Bransgore and Thorney Hill, who fell in the Great War, 12 villagers who were killed in the Second War, the 8 airmen who are buried in Bransgore churchyard and Simon Bates, who died in 1980 in Northern Ireland .

These 61 local men came from widely differing socio-economic backgrounds, but each death was a personal tragedy to their family and friends. The length of each memorial is influenced by the availability of records and the discovery of relatives, - not the importance of that individual. The aim for each person is to link them with the village, give a flavour of their service and explain the circumstances leading to each death.

Those who fought in the Second War and later were their fathers' sons. Families had experienced war and the BBC ensured that every citizen was aware of what was going on.

The dangers, however, were - and are still - the same. These men deserve to be remembered as individuals.
