The Baronet's 2nd Son

by George Power

The author is the younger son of Sir John Power BT. MP who represented Wimbledon from 1924-1945 and owned  Newlands Manor near Lymington, Hampshire.

A member of the original Admiralty Ferry Crew, he helped deliver various boats to the services, on one occasion from the United States, whilst on "sick-leave".

Being unable to follow his father's footsteps in Parliament, he devoted his life to Local Government affairs and served on numerous bodies, Hospital Groups, School Governorships and the Territorial Army Committee.

He founded the Sea Rescue Service, later to become the Royal National Lifeboat Institute Inshore Rescue Service.

A great lover of the sea, he is now on his 50th boat.
